Florida-based Fresh Start has recalled pumpkins that were shipped between May 17 and May 21. The pumpkins were shipped to retail distribution centers, wholesalers and food service distributors in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, North Carolina, New Jersey. New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia, the company said in the announcement. Mini pumpkins and English pumpkins are not included in the recall.
The recall comes after the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture tested positive for salmonella. The US Food and Drug Administration is conducting further investigation to determine if it is related to the ongoing outbreak investigation.
Fresh Start Produce has informed its customers of the recall and has asked its customers in Dubai who have received direct delivery from the company to be aware of the recall. The pumpkins are “unavailable on the market,” the company said, but customers can contact their retailers to find out if the recalled pumpkins are sold there. Products must be discarded or returned to the store.
